VICOBA/IR-VICOBA
The Village community Banks model is a savings-based approach that has proven on a very large scale that can change the life of people within the short time through their resouses which are available. It provides not just savings and credity but there are more value which can not be accesed through MFI.

The model was originally introduced in 2002 and piroted in Ukonga and Kisarawe by the world conference on religion for peace. Since 2002 the model has been spread up to the whole over the country.

Target Group of VICOBA Training
The training is targeting consultant, project Officers, Project coordinators, Field Officers, Faith Groups, Economic Facilitators, Community Trainers and any other persons who need to know the methodology and practice on the ground. The training also can be attended by any people who have knowledge of VICOBA which will enable him/her to get new modification and skills on supervision, monitoring and coarching tips.

At the end of the training the course participants will be awarded certificate, groups materials and training manue for starting a VICOBA model in their work station. Training guidance towards developing the model at their work station will be planned with training participants after training.

The Course
The training provides new insights and skills to course participants at the same time offering excellent opportunities for reflection and learning on VICOBA model. The training has a set of unique products on offer and brings to participants a rich practical experience from all over Tanzania.

VICOBA is not a stand-alone venture the training will go hand in hand with: Food Security, HIVAIDS/OVCs, Gender Based violance, Good Governance, public expenditure and tracking and Programme Sustainability.

This course provides the basic building blocks onto other courses as it builds out skills and knowledge of reaching and creating community social capital whereby other functions can be carried out.

Course Objectives

Main Objective
It is envisaged that, by the end of this course, participants shall be able to develop and manage a community-based micro finance using VICOBA methodology.

Specific Objectives
• Participants will learn on the basics of VICOBA groups management principles
• Participants will understand and be able to apply VICOBA methodology in developing community based micro finance schemes
• Participants will be able to practice the methodology, monitor and provide technical assistance and advice to participants of their programme.
• To expose participants on necessary working equipment needed in running the VICOBA programme.
• To introduce participants to the Management Information System (MIS) of VICOBA methodology
• To equip participants with VICOBA guides and working equipment necessary to start the programme
• the participants will learn the monitoring and evaluation frame work.
• Participants will learn on business training on selection, planning and management.
• Participants will learn on the entrepreneurship skills.

Course Facilitators
Course facilitators are rich experienced in training development workers, civil society organizations and their partners, donors and government agencies across the Tanzania. They have been conducting training on VICOBA in Tanzania since its entry in 2002.

The facilitators are drawn from Development Organizations like VICOBA Microfinance and Development, World Conference on Religion for peace and other practionaries.

Timing
The course will be conducted for Ten days starting from 27th February – 7th March 2012. The class will be restricted to only 20 participants for easy interactions and practical learning. Early applicants will be the first to be considered for placement.

Venue
The venue for the training will be at MBEZI GARDEN. It is situated along the Bagamoyo road it is conducive for learning environment for the participants and recreation after long days of work.

Fees
The registration fees are 500$. The Fees will include registration, accommodation on the shared rooms, tea and lunch. For those who will need to stay in single roam the have to top up 25$ per day.

TRAINING IN ARUSHA

The Firm has been conducting training of trainers in collaboration with different local and international organizations. This was the training which was conducted in collaboration with Pathfinder International in 2006 under TUTUNZANE programe for PLWHA and community at larger in Arusha through funding from McKnight foundation. The project showed a good impact at community on community responsibility for PLWHA, reducing stigma, introducing of income generating activities, community at larger and sustainability of TUTUNZANE Project. The aim of training was to provide the knowledge about the linkage between VICOBA and TUTUNZANE, Groups mobilizing, how to conduct sensitization meetings, on going groups training for 12 weeks. VICOBA MICROFINANCE AND DEVELOPMENT

VICOBA microfinance and development is a consultancy and training firm that is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and is set to work locally and internationally. It is working as a “Franchisee” on community development especial on Village community banks that are working local and internationally.
